January 19, 1990, was a night of terror that shattered lives beyond repair. By dawn, hundreds of thousands of Kashmiri Hindus had been stripped of home, safety, and belonging, turned overnight into refugees fleeing for survival. The months leading up to the exodus were marked by targeted killings, mosque loudspeaker threats, social isolation, and the total collapse of state protection. Families escaped in fear, abandoning homes, temples, livelihoods, and ancestral roots. The Kashmir Files captured only the tip of this catastrophe. This webinar brings forward the lived testimonies of those who endured Islamic threats, exile, and the long trauma of dispossession.

January 1990 -Anatomy of an Exodus: This topic examines what actually unfolded in the days and weeks leading up to January 19. The panelists will trace the escalation of Islamist threats, targeted killings, mosque announcements, and administrative paralysis that forced an entire community to flee overnight.
Memory as a Shield – Remembering the Holocaust: This topic looks at life in exile, loss of home and dignity, and the long silence around accountability, restitution, and return.
